MAKING IT
The He(art) of Making It
While it may be fun to see Hollywood as a place of glitz and glamour, taking a step back to collectively look at the creative culture, the root of where and how it all began is important in one's ability to not only understand, but appreciate the importance of an ecclectic city like Los Angeles. There truly is no other city that can compare. A city where no dream is too big. A city where creative minds are encouraged to create things with others. A city where everywhere you go you run into art and artists. Whether it is the man dressed up as Superman walking down Hollywood Boulevard, a visit to one of the city's many museums, a local theatre or concert hall, or even the street performers on the Venice Boardwalk. The city truly is a place full of dreamers. Dreamers that spend their lives doing what they love. Living out passion, despite complication.
Although all very different stories, collectively the four artists I sat down with cultivated a similar message – the passion of the craft and community of creative minds outweighs the pressures of “making it” in Hollywood. To these artists, “making it” doesn’t necessarily mean “becoming the next Kardashian” or earning a pink star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. For these creative, like-minded individuals, "making it" simply means making a lifetime career out of doing what they love in any way possible. It means having the freedom, ability and imagination to create artistic things. It means being in a place like Los Angeles that cultivates a sense of commnity that fully supports and inspires the creation of another person's artistic pursuits.
